About RockStar Hot Tubs
RockStar is a site dedicated to InGround Hot
Tubs and In Ground spas. The term "spa" and "hot tub" are interchangeable.
You will see both used throughout the site If you have spent some
time researching this area you may have found that there are very few
manufacturers that actually supply this product.
Providing inground spas to the general
public is, at best a tricky business. These spas are shipped in a state
which requires a considerable amount of installation for them to operate
properly.
First, the inground spas are plumbed in
one or two closed systems. That means that the pipes are connected to the
jets but not to the pumps or control stem. When you receive the in ground
hot tub you, or preferably your contractor, will need to cut into one of
the two inch PVC pipes in each system. There is a separate system for each
pump. Those pipes will then need to be run to an auxiliary box where all of your
in ground spa equipment will be stored.
If the auxiliary system is placed to far
from the inground spa, the system will not have sufficient power. Certain
configurations may cause the spa to be prone to air locks. This can be
alleviated by forcing water through the intake at the base of the skimmer or
with the use of a relief valve you may chose to install in your inground hot
tub.
The good news is that 98% of problems are
going to occur in your auxiliary box and can be fixed without lifting the
inground spa. Occasionally, a shell will develop a blister, crack or a
pipe will leak. The best way to prevent leaks is to NOT DRAIN THE SPA.
The controls can be set to "sleep." This will allow the circulation pump
to operate. Heat will only be used if the water temperature falls below
Zero Centigrade (32 Fahrenheit) .
Please don't put salt in your spa. It is a
scientific fact that table salt (sodium chloride) and sea salt (sodium bromide)
both convert to a natural disinfectant, chlorine and bromine, when exposed to an
electrode. The sodium that remains combines with the glue in your PVC
system forming what I like to call "so-so" glue. The unconverted salt
grins the insides of your jets to fine powder. I recommend you stick to a
very low dose of bromine, about 2 PPM. Use baking soda to bring your pH
and acid down. If you need to use pH negative to remove metal particulates
(hard water), be sure to WASH THE FILTER WITHIN 6 HOURS OF APPLICATION.
Your filter will last anywhere from two
minutes to two years. If you use a metal knife to clean it, it won't last
very long. If you throw it in the dishwasher it will probably last a year
or so. If you hand wash it, you will get a couple of years. I
recommend you use Aqua EZ filter cleaner. It's made with citrus acid, so
its not dangerous. Its available at Lowes, Leslie's or Pinch a Penny.
By the way, the stuff is amazing for removing red wine from anything!
Just t to wrap up the water subject, keep
the pH between 7.2 and 7.8. Bromine (or Chlorine) at 2 PPM (the
ozone will do the rest of the work for you). If you want to go with
Bacacil, go ahead. Its made with hydrogen peroxide which will not hurt
your spa, unless you add bromine and then the whole spa will become a giant bowl
of Jell-O. Don't panic, the inground spa comes with a complete chemical
kit and a video showing you how to use it (and of course how to by more).
